The Purpose of this study is to analyze changes in Korean firms, electronic products, and consumers of home appliances, which are the driving force of the electronics industry in Korea. Even though the home appliance industry is thought to be in a mature stage, much effort is made to meet customer desires in the capacity and functions of next generation products. The Korean home appliance has done a great job in maintaining a solid position in the world market under the pressure of competition from foreign companies. This is because Korean firms have not only concentrated on developing next generation home appliances but has also made great efforts to meet the changing demands of customers and maintain close relationships with customers. Companies can develop such relationships through encouraging customer participation in the development process.
This study looks at the transitions in the Korean home appliance industry over the past few decades and provides the foundation for new strategies in the future.
