This book starts with the establishment of the North Korean Interim People¡¯s Committee with Kim Il Sung as its chairman in February 1946. ¡°Socialist reforms¡± including the land reform under the North Korean Interim People¡¯s Committee are also examined. It then explains the process leading to the inauguration of the North Korean Worker¡¯s Party by merging the North Korean Branch of the Korean Communist Party and the New Democratic Party in August 1946. It also explains the process leading to the inauguration of the North Korean People¡¯s Committee that replaced the North Korean Interim People¡¯s Committee in February 1947, the Korean People¡¯s Army in February 1948, and the Democratic People¡¯s Republic of Korea in September 1948. This volume examines the role played by the Soviet Union and Kim Il Sung in North Korean political developments from February 1946 to September 1948. Political developments in South Korea under the American military government in the same period are also discussed. This book argues that the Soviet Union led the establishment of a separate Korean state on the Korean peninsula.
