This study provides an overview of the poets who made a debut or were active under Japanese colonial rule. During the period, a great deal of works by Korean poets were bowdlerized or seized, and many poets were detained or imprisoned. The reason the author deals only with poets of the period has to do with the period that he went through himself. He felt a cultural shock when, after Korea's liberation from Japanese colonial rule on August 15, 1945, he was for the first time allowed to learn the Korean language and Hangeul alphabet and read works of Han Yong-un, Kim So-wol, Jeong Ji-yong, and Lee Sang. This experience later led him to become a scholar of Korean literature. This book provides an overview of the works and activities of the poets who lived in a colonized country. This book deals with the literary worlds of Han Yong-un, Park Mok-wol, Chung Ji-yong, Kim Gi-rim, Lee Sang, Seo Jung-ju, Lee Yuk-sa, Yun Dong-ju, Lim Hwa, Gwon Hwan, Park Se-young, Park Pal-yang, Lee Chan, Oh Jang-hwan, Lim Hak-ju, Cho Beok-am, Yun Gong-gang, Paek Seok, and Lee Yong-ak.
